CONCEPT

In this series, I experiment with various media to create a closed-loop, or self-recursive experience for the viewer with the aim at instigating mindfulness of the small things in life: a highway roadside, a swing, a window, a subway ride. In my exploration I found a surprising similarity to the uncanny phenomenon of deja vu, which is not surprising since it too creates a memory closed-loop.

In Closed System 1, viewers are invited to into a play trap: a swing that is designed not to function. Closed System 2 locks viewers into the familiar infinite hallway effect transposed into the unfamiliar setting of the highway billboard. Closed System 3 explores the moiree effect on window blinds swaying in the wind projected at scale onto the selfsame blinds. Closed System 4 reflects the gaze of subway goers by swapping advertisement space (an otherwise safe respite from the myriad eyes of other commuters) for fun-house mirrors.
